Dispute Resolution Center of Kitsap County
The mission of the DRC is to help people on Bainbridge Island and in Kitsap County resolve their disputes out of court, voluntarily, peacefully, quickly and inexpensively. Mediation is a confidential, voluntary process in which impartial, professionally trained community members (mediators) offer others in the community an opportunity to reach an informed, mutually acceptable and durable settlement that will resolve a problem or dispute. The mediator's role is to assist the parties in communicating and understanding their issues and interests. Mediators are not decision-makers. Mediations are conducted by 50 professionally trained community volunteers. DRC volunteer mediators assist residents to resolve family issues including divorce, parenting plans and parent-teen problems. They also mediate neighborhood disputes and tenant-landlord issues. Businesses work with the DRC to help resolve employee issues and to improve conflict management skills in the workplace. Residents may choose mediation instead of Small Claims court to settle their case at no additional cost. The DRC also provides specialized programs such as peer mediation in schools, victim-offender restorative justice sessions and mental health ombuds representatives. Mediation training programs, conflict management and communication skills training are available to the general public as well as to specific client organizations.

Kitsap Humane Society
The Kitsap Humane Society (KHS), the oldest and largest companion pet protection agency on the Kitsap Peninsula, is an independent, not-for-profit organization. Since 1908, KHS has served Kitsap citizens (including Bainbridge Island) and homeless, lost, or abused animals, by providing humane education, protection from cruelty, shelter from the elements, and a second chance at a loving home. No call for help goes unanswered. While the heart of our mission remains rescuing companion pets in trouble and finding them loving, permanent homes, we also focus on preventing suffering and strengthening the human bond through free education. We run low to no cost spay/neuter campaigns and diligently enforce the State, County and City anti-cruelty laws. We are also proud to note that as a part of our mission KHS has, over the last few years, reduced our euthanasia rate of healthy adoptable companion animals by more than 90%. To continue this success your help is needed. Donations directly designated to KHS save lives. Please make the decision to help and designate the Kitsap Humane Society today. We also invite community volunteers to join in our efforts. Contact KHS for more information on volunteer programs.
